AI As A Clean Internet Layer

Not better targeting. Not smarter persuasion. Just the content I asked for, stripped of everything trying to hijack me.

The internet increasingly feels like weather. A useful AI should know when to open the umbrella.

Around 2014, my frustration with the web started peaking. I could already feel that AI was coming, not in today’s exact shape, but clearly enough to think: good, finally, maybe something intelligent can stand between me and this mess. I really could not wait.

For years after that, I kept waiting for AI to solve one problem above almost all others: give me the internet without the advertising layer. Not better ads. Not more relevant ads. Not a charming little algorithm deciding which commercial interruption matches my personality today. I want all ads gone.

I want the article without the sponsored rectangle. The search result without the promoted trap at the top. The recipe without the casino of popups. The product page without fake scarcity. The video without the interruption. The answer without a sales funnel hiding inside it.

This is not about letting AI handle my mind in a more polite way. That is the nightmare version. I do not want hidden filtering, invisible nudging, clickbait rewritten in softer language, or a black box deciding what I am emotionally allowed to notice. I want the original content I asked for, cleaned of the junk attached to it.

The important word is agency. If I ask for facts, give me facts. If I ask for a comparison, give me the real trade-offs. If I ask for a source, take me to the source. Do not wrap everything in persuasion, urgency, emotional hooks, affiliate incentives, and engagement tricks. I am not a resource to be extracted. I am the user.

This is also why the business model matters. If the AI is paid by advertisers, it works for advertisers. If I pay the AI, it has at least a chance of working for me. That distinction is not cosmetic. It decides whether the system protects my intention or rents it out by the impression.

Maybe this is expensive to build. Maybe every user needing a private assistant changes the economics. Fine. But the value is obvious to me: remove the machinery between me and what I came to understand. No ads, no clickbait, no synthetic desire, no hand on the nervous system. Just the thing itself.
