Fundraising And Sleeping In A Car

Startup romance has terrible upholstery.

There is a clean version of startup stories and there is the version where your things are in the passenger seat and you are trying to sleep in a car. The clean version is useful for pitch decks. The other one is the one your body remembers.

During the aMUZE fundraising period I was pushing hard to keep the company alive. Meetings, messages, investor logic, product questions, money pressure, optimism, humiliation, logistics, and that strange founder state where the future feels both enormous and one email away from collapsing.

Sleeping in a car is not heroic. It is uncomfortable, inefficient, and very bad for the neck. But it also removes any doubt about whether you cared. At some point the story stops being theoretical. You are physically inside the cost of the attempt.

I did not manage to raise the money I wanted. That still hurts a little, but it no longer feels like a simple failure. I learned what pressure does to judgment, how expensive momentum is, how lonely ambition can become, and how much of a startup is held together by belief before evidence catches up.

I also learned that grit is not always loud. Sometimes it is just continuing to send the next message, prepare the next version, and sleep badly while trying to keep the machine moving.
