The Honda, The Brake Pistons, And The Dremel

A stubborn front caliper and another reason to respect a 2007 machine that refuses to die.

My Honda is a 250 from 2007. I still own it. The machine has spent years making a strong case for the word indestructible.

The front brake eventually demanded attention. I had to identify and order the correct pistons, then learn the caliper closely enough to trust the result with something more important than a software rollback.

I told myself: man, you replaced an entire water pump. Fixing a front brake should be an afternoon. I even timed the job so I could compare myself with professional labour time. What was I thinking?

Previous service work had left several fasteners in poor condition. That becomes especially charming when the damaged hardware belongs to the front brake.

My Dremel came back from Greece and immediately earned its luggage allowance. I had not used it in a long time, but this was exactly the sort of small mechanical argument it knows how to settle.

I cleaned the caliper, replaced what needed replacing, dealt with the damaged fasteners and put the system back together. Then came the part where confidence has to become verification.

The brake worked perfectly. More importantly, I understood the motorcycle much better than I had before opening it.

The Honda survived another owner intervention. At this point it may simply be studying me.
