Back On The Water
The second sailing course began with enough wind to remove any doubt that I had missed this.
In February 2017 I went back for a second sailing course. The first one had given me vocabulary. This time the water supplied punctuation.
The boat leaned harder, spray crossed the deck and every movement carried more weight. Rough water was no longer an abstract condition mentioned in class. It was under my feet.
A heeling boat gives the body a rapid education. Balance, grip and timing become one problem. The mind follows because it has no better offer.
I looked ridiculous inside several layers of winter gear and felt excellent. Nature has never required me to look composed while recovering my composure.
I had returned because the first course worked. The weather made the second worth remembering.
