Weather allowing. We stay near Maur for the first 20-30 minutes, then cross to Uster and back only if the lake, the kayak and the human all behave.

Kayak access beside Schifflande Maur

The free boat reopened an old kayaking plan. The predictable next step was apparently to buy a proper inflatable kayak and find out whether all my research survives contact with water.

I will be at Greifensee at 06:30 on Saturday. The first 20-30 minutes stay close to Maur: seat, footrest, balance, turns, stopping and getting back into the kayak. If the weather is calm and I get the hang of it, the next move is Uster and back.

Maur to Uster is roughly one kilometre each way.

The direct crossing is roughly two kilometres there and back. The paddling itself should take around 30-40 minutes at a cautious pace. With setup, experiments and a pause, I am allowing one and a half to two hours. This is a first session, not an aquatic quarterly target.

This is weather allowing. A buoyancy aid, water and responsibility for your own equipment are not optional. Reeds and protected areas get space. So does the scheduled boat, although at this hour it should still be asleep.

This is the general idea. The lake retains editorial control.

I am going if conditions are sensible. If you would like to come, join below. Interested also counts; 06:30 has defeated stronger commitments.
