Autumn In Pelion

Beech forest, cloud below the ridge, and a path almost entirely made of leaves.

Pelion in November had changed the colour system. The bright summer trips were gone. The mountain was copper, grey, wet stone and cloud sitting below the ridge.

The path moved through beech forest and over old stone. Leaves softened every step and concealed enough rocks to keep the arrangement interesting.

Stone below, cloud below that.

A walk like this narrows attention without asking permission: cold air, the sound of leaves, footing, breath, the next marker. It is hard to maintain an elaborate internal crisis while the trail keeps assigning small physical tasks.

I had been using nature as medicine all year. Pelion came in slow-release form.

The route through the season.
A warmer kind of light at the end.
