Vikos Makes Scale Personal
A gorge large enough to correct the proportions of whatever was occupying my head.
Vikos starts working on your sense of scale before the walk properly begins. The walls rise, cloud moves through the gaps and every turn reveals more gorge than the previous view had admitted.
The photographs fail in a useful way. They record the shapes and light, then quietly lose the physical fact of standing there.
We moved between forest, stone paths, old bridges and exposed viewpoints. The landscape kept changing the unit of measurement.
When something in my head occupies the entire field, a large landscape corrects the proportions. The problem may remain. It loses its claim to being the geography.
Vikos is very efficient at reminding a person that he is not the main geographic feature.
